(C506) HERE’S THE WEREWOLF: THE APOCALYPSE EARTHBLOOD REVIEW!

The game Werewolf: The Apocalypse Earthblood is finally available to play and we have the review for you. Check it out.

A very realistic fantasy world

In this game, we take on the role of Cahal, a werewolf who is on a mission to destroy the Endron company, which is causing destruction in the environment around the world on behalf of the Wyrm, one of the three primordial entities. These entities used to take care of Gaia, the spirit of the earth, along with Wyld and Weaver, but the Wyrm went mad and is now trying to destroy everything. At the beginning of the game, we are made aware of this mythology of spirits and how they influence the world of humans. They combine the real world with the fantasy world in a way that spiritual forces manipulate the world from another plane of existence, either with help for the protection of Gaia or its destruction and this helps create a sense of mystery, even if it is not made clear how much their forces extend to any other fantasy creature.

Beyond the agents of these forces and some of their powers, we are not shown much about how they interact with humans, so it could be seen as a missed opportunity, although it could be something to be explored in the future.

Fierce, yet simple fights

Combat in this game is found in two ways, stealthy and evasive or aggressive and destructive. We can use Cahal in his human form to finish off enemies with stealth kills or with a crossbow (the crossbow contains limited arrows, so it can’t be used to finish an entire room of enemies). Of course, many enemies of greater size and power cannot be attacked in this way, yet it is still possible on certain occasions to advance to the next part of the mission without facing them.

The most aggressive tactics can be used immediately by transforming into the werewolf form. The same result can be obtained as with stealth, but the stealth gives you advantages for the aggressive tactics, so the game rewards using both in each confrontation (energy boosts, sabotage of the entrances for reinforcements, etc).

The werewolf form focuses on 3 types of combat,  swift, powerful and a rage mode. The swift combat helps to take down weaker enemies quickly and to accumulate more  energy for special attacks. It is useful when you want to move from side to side without problems, although its defense is not very high and this causes it to be easy to stun. The powerful form allows you to use higher damage attacks and take more hits from enemies, which helps against characters who use shields, are larger or have many stun attacks. This phase has the disadvantage of being slow and not receiving much energy charge for special attacks, so it is always recommended to switch between the two styles to obtain the best results.

Finally the rage phase gets a style that is like a combination of both styles in which, you can use fast, but powerful attacks. It has a limited time and does not load as fast, so it is recommended to use it only in cases of need or if you want to cause a lot of chaos.

Improve your skills and facilitate your mission

Cahal has different skills that can be improved which will help with stealth or combat, depending on your choice. Some improvements help make it more difficult for enemies to detect him, have more arrows for the crossbow, destroy cameras, new special attacks, improve the defenses, etc. These abilities are obtained through spirit points, which require the player to collect different plants or complete side missions to acquire them.

A simple and entertaining experience, albeit a bit confusing

As for the aspect of how the game feels in general, the truth is that it is entertaining to play it, although at times the experience slows down due to the fact that the character moves slowly depending on the location. You can use the Wolf form to move faster, but still this only helps you move a little faster. The secondary missions can be confusing, since some of these indicate the objective, but not the location or even an approximation of them. You can spend hours circling a place to realize that the objective wasn’t obtainable until later in the story. A minimap or some more visible indicator could help in such a situation, but unfortunately this is not available.

Interactions with the characters feel somewhat robotic, as their expressions don’t seem to demonstrate human emotions and the voice acting is a bit bland. At the same time, different dialogue options are offered that seem to give a feeling of choice and that we can change the events of the game. However, these are limited to minor changes to the dialogue and there only seems to be a major selection, so the weight of these decisions is not very heavy.

As for the combat, it feels quite dynamic and entertaining, it is exciting to see how you can destroy hordes of enemies with the right skills and vary between them. It can sometimes feel unfair due to the stun some enemies can inflict and how they can be chained with other enemies’ attacks, but it doesn’t affect enough to say it ruins the experience. Another thing that seems to be missing is the visual effect of the damage towards the enemies, since beyond the blood, the effects on them are not very noticeable. Still, if you just want to unleash your fury against a bunch of soldiers like a werewolf, this game will satisfy you.

Conclusion

The game serves well as an action game, as using the werewolf always makes you feel like the real monster among the others, the side quests could be improved and the story doesn’t have much of an impact, but if you’re like me, it doesn’t. much relevance in terms of the game, since the action fulfills its objective well.
