Hello, Indie TCG lovers! It’s been a while since our last article, but I’m here today to talk about Rotation Rumble, which you can check out on its Kickstarter here. This game comes from Robin Metz, a game designer from Germany, who is currently working on his first game, Rotation Rumble.
The first thing that caught my attention is the game’s presentation, reminiscent of a portable console game from the ’90s, allowing you to take the fun anywhere!
But What is Rotation Rumble?
Welcome to the wild world of Rotation Rumble! In this game, you’re not just a spectator; you’re the mastermind behind a team of unpredictable mercenaries hired to clash in weekly rumble fights for riches, cheesecake, and glory. As a guild coach, it’s your job to recruit the right fighters, equip them with clever items, and outmaneuver your rival in a contest of wit, timing, and rotation chaos.
Designed for fast-paced 2-player skirmishes and housed in a compact cartridge case, Rotation Rumble is perfect for strategy-packed sessions anytime, anywhere. Easy to carry, quick to learn, and endlessly replayable, it’s ideal for gamers who love tight, tactical duels with a creative edge.
How to Play?
The Goal: The first player to reach 12 victory points wins by sending fighters into the lanes and breaking through your opponent’s defenses.
Preparation: Choose a captain to lead your guild, setting your deck’s color identity. Build a 10-card deck using only matching colors or jump in with one of the 16 ready-to-play micro decks. Draw 3 cards, set gold to zero, and roll to see who takes the first turn.
Playing Cards and Rotating Fighters: Each turn, draw a card and gain 1 gold (max 4). Play fighters, equip items, and use flash. Fighters go into one of three lanes, facing you. Starting next turn, you can rotate each fighter once per round, activating new abilities on each side. Mastering the rotation and chaining card effects is key to victory. Flash cards let you react during either player’s phase, and items give your fighters powerful upgrades.
Rumbling: Once both players finish their turns, it’s time to rumble! Fighters in each lane clash, comparing attack vs. defense. If the attacker breaks through, they score points equal to the difference.
A Great Opportunity!
One fantastic aspect is that you can experience the game at a low cost by trying it in its print-and-play version. You can find it here. Download the print-and-play files for the “Howls & Horrors” decks of Rotation Rumble and dive right into the action! Each deck is conveniently designed to fit on a single page, so with just two sheets of paper, you’re ready to go. All you’ll need in addition are a few dice to bring these battles to life.
And as always, I’m excited about the stretch goals, and this campaign has already unlocked many of them, with more to come. I highly recommend you check it out!
This is just the beginning; we’ll be talking more about this game in the near future. Until next time, when we’ll discuss the campaign add-ons!
