INDIE TCG SERIES – Creatures of Exo Interview with the creator

Welcome to our Indie TCG Series! Creature of Exo, a game created by Emanuele Riva, a digital artist from Italy currently studying 3D art, has caught the attention of many with its unique features. One fascinating aspect of the game is its use of both English and Italian languages. But that’s not all; the game’s stunning artwork. Following its initial success on Kickstarter, a new campaign has been launched to fund an expansion pack with even more cards. If you’re interested, you can still pledge by clicking here.

Let’s take a closer look at the gameplay. The objective of the game is to reduce your opponent’s Leader’s Life Points to zero. This is achieved by playing various cards such as Creatures, Evolutions, Vice Leaders, and Tactics, and using different zones, including the Field, Occultic Space, and Aether. The game has several turn phases, including Draw, Recovery, Main, Battle, and End phases. Different types of cards, including Creature, Evolution, Vice Leader, Tactic, and Leader cards, each with their own set of rules and abilities, are available. Card colors also have an impact on gameplay in some instances. For more details on the game mechanics, check out this video with English subtitles.

To learn more about the game, here are some useful resources: Website, Discord, Youtube and Instagram. However, what I’m excited to share with you today is a short interview with Emanuele himself. He was very generous in answering our questions and is easy to approach. If you have any more questions for him, you can find his email address here [email protected].

What is your experience with gaming?

I have been playing games since I was a kid, starting with Yu-Gi-Oh and Duel Masters. Then, I played Magic, Hearthstone, and Force of Will for a few years.

What inspired you to create this game?

Creatures of Exo is a combination of various TCGs, along with some original ideas. The best part is how the resources work. I wanted to create something that was 1vs1 competitive and smooth like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic, but with its own unique way of managing resources, as many TCGs have copies of Magic when it comes to Mana.

How long have you been working on this game?

I have been working on Creatures of Exo for three years now. I received help from experienced TCG players as well as casual players for playtesting.

What has been the biggest challenge in this project?

My biggest challenge has been building a community and finding places to set up regular tournaments, as we are currently only a few. I hope to grow and provide more opportunities for players in the future.

What makes this game different from others?

As mentioned earlier, the unique way of managing resources sets Creatures of Exo apart from other TCGs. It feels smooth like other famous TCGs, but different at the same time, as every card you draw and control faceup is a resource to set up your combos.

Why should people support this game?

I believe this project deserves support because the gameplay is smooth and well-designed, similar to other famous TCGs. It has a unique style that you can feel while playing. Additionally, every aspect of the game, from the cards to the graphic layout, rules, and more, is entirely created by me with a lot of work and love behind it.

What are your plans for the game’s future?

My plans for the future include a significant graphic revamp. As seen from my recent Instagram posts, there are better artworks and layouts. I am planning to switch to WJPC to have different holo patterns, booster packs, and more to bring better quality to the cards. I am dedicating almost all my free time to this project and hope to receive more support to create a thriving community for this game!

As always, stay tuned to our magazine and YouTube channel for short videos and content on the world of indie TCGs. Until next time, keep playing!
