Hello, board game lovers! Today we’re delving into the seas of Six-Sided Seas, the new release from Solis Game Studio. This exciting game will be available at Gen Con in Indianapolis in August 2026, with a suggested retail price of $24.99 USD. You can order here.

In Six-Sided Seas, you’ll immerse yourself in a dynamic and strategic pirate game. Players roll dice to recruit crew, but be careful not to overdo it! Then, they strategically assign these dice on their ship to explore islands, attack rivals, plunder treasures, or boost their economy. The first captain to reach 21 gold, sink their opponent, or control 4 islands is crowned the most feared pirate.
What attracted me most to “Six-Sided Seas” is its portability, thanks to its game mat and dice format. Furthermore, its quick 15 to 20-minute playtimes make it an ideal filler for any game night.

The Story Behind the Waves
The inspiration for Six-Sided Seas originated in 2023, when Chris Solis, founder of Solis Game Studio, visited Thailand for CMON Asia. There, he observed how game boards were protected by laminating them to extend their lifespan. This sparked an idea in Chris: what if the board itself was a game mat? This concept would not only protect the game but also make it easy to transport and suitable for any environment.
With this vision, Chris launched an internal design challenge to his community, seeking a game that would fit this concept. It was Kroze Kresky who successfully designed Six-Sided Seas, meeting the parameters for an easy-to-learn, exciting, and highly replayable game. Kroze conceived the mechanics inspired by Blackjack, but using dice, and the result was an addictive game that hooks you from the very first plays.

Gameplay Mechanics
Six-Sided Seas combines “push-your-luck” and “worker placement” mechanics. Players roll dice to generate crew members, deciding with each roll whether to continue or stop to avoid “busting” their limit. These dice are then assigned to different stations on the ship, allowing players to:
- Explore Islands: To claim control and gain passive abilities.
- Attack: Inflict damage on rival ships.
- Plunder and Boost Economy: To accumulate gold.
One of the strengths of this game lies in its three victory conditions, which offer diverse strategies to achieve triumph:
- Sink the opponent’s ship.
- Reach the maximum gold limit (21).
- Control 4 islands at the start of your turn.
